What do the NSW taxi licence reforms mean for me?
As the state government moves towards deregulating the market, becoming your own taxi Operator is more accessible than ever before.
As your own Operator, you’ll keep a larger share of your earnings.
Where a Driver would usually split 50% of the fare with their Operator*, you as an independent Operator will keep 100%.
Being your own Operator means that your business is truly yours to run as you like. You’re free to work your own hours, drive your own vehicle(s) and earn on your terms.
We’re here to make the process of becoming an Operator as simple and painless as possible. We’ll assist you every step of the way with any extra training required and we can also help you source a vehicle to drive. (See below for more)
As of the 1st of February 2023, you’ll be able to apply for your own taxi licence. You’ll need to apply via the Point to Point Transport Commission who will award you your licence at the end of the transitional period approximately in May. This licence will cost $200 annually, which is the small cost of having full control over your business.
Like any business, there are running costs involved in progressing your career and becoming a taxi Operator. Aside from the annual payment of your taxi licence, you’ll also need to pay monthly network fees in order to receive ongoing work and support from 13cabs. Other costs include fuel, insurance and vehicle maintenance.
*50/50 split is based on most common agreement between Driver/Operator. Actual division of income varies between Operators.
